A Beautiful Run Through Newbury, MA & The Power of Nature

Sometimes I have to kick myself for not bringing my camera with me…

After a little hemming and hawing I decided that today’s fun workout would be a 4 to 5 mile run around Newburyport with stair repeats at the park…

Followed by some strength training back at home. Wanting to try a different route than the yesterday’s self guided Newburyport walking tour, I headed southeast on route 1A. My running plans changed because I soon found myself leaving Newburyport and entering Newbury.

Now I know what you’re thinking because I was thinking the same thing: How different could Newbury and Newburyport really be? Quite different actually. The houses in Newburyport are a bit older and sit quite close together whereas Newbury is full of rolling hills, and sprawling farmland.

I cruised along the generous shoulder on route 1A for a little over 2 miles and then turned back with the intention of running out and back on a few of the side streets so that I could see more of the farmland. I only had to turn off the road once because Pine Island Road lead me to the most beautiful place…

The marsh grasses seemed to go on for miles. I took of my sunglasses and breathed in the salty sea air that blew across the landscape and thought ‘How on earth did I end up here??’ (both on my run and life in general.) If it had not been for the heat, lack of water, and ever growing to do list, I think that I simply would have kept running. Next time I run to Newbury I’m going to bring my camera, my camelbak, and some Clif energy shots so that I can…

I cruised back home to finish my 6 miler with a big sweaty grin. After showering, I refueled lots of water, a wonderfully juicy peach, and some delicious leftovers.

And now I simply feel at peace.

Isn’t the power of nature simply amazing??
