Delilah’s Story
By jenny on Apr 19, 2011 with Comments 7
Hello everyone and a very happy Wednesday to you. I hope that the weather where you are is better than it is here in Chicago as it is quite dreary outside! Fortunately, I have the privilege of sharing FHF Reader and fellow blogger Delilah’s story of her journey toward healthier habits to help brighten my day. I am so glad that Fitness Health and Food is a place where readers can share their knowledge and experiences and learn from others. So without further ado, here is Delilah’s story.
Dieting Delilah – My Story
I’ve been writing my blog, Dieting Delilah, for some years now and I wanted to share the things I’ve learned about dieting.
During my teens I was a relatively normal weight and didn’t have to worry too much about what I ate. However, in my late 20s and early 30s, I slowly began to put weight on. By the time I had two children, my weight had ballooned and none of my clothes fit. I was several sizes larger than I used to be and I was getting out of breath walking up stairs or hills.
I realized that I needed to tackle my weight in earnest and do something about it to improve my health….and so my dieting journey began!
My Dieting Motivation
Dieting hasn’t been easy – it never is. Like lots of other dieters, I’ve had my ups and downs, my good days and bad ones, times when I can’t resist the cravings and make all the wrong food decisions. I’ve also tried some weird and wonderful diets, but realized through experience that the ones that claim instant weight loss usually have a catch!
(My two daughters with a friend goofing around on the beach.)
One of my major motivators has been the desire to be a healthy mum for my kids. I want to be able to keep up with their energy, run around with them without getting out of breath, and be there for them for a long time! I have relations who have Type 2 diabetes and the thought that being overweight could lead to such major health problems scared me.
My Dieting Support Team
Dieting can be really difficult sometimes, especially when you’re in social situations and everyone else doesn’t seem to be thinking twice about what they eat or drink. I’m now back at work as a full-time secretary and have made some great dieting buddies at work – we call each other our ‘dieting support team!’
When the rest of the office are having cookies with their coffee or have ordered in doughnuts for lunch, we support each other in our bid to eat our healthy snacks. Sometimes we text each other to warn that something tempting (like chocolate or cakes when it’s someone’s birthday) is on its way being passed round the office!
Other friends and family have been good support too. I think it’s really important, whatever diet you’re doing, to have someone to share your experiences with. This is one reason why I find blogging so beneficial, as there are lots of people out there who are interested in dieting issues and want to share their thoughts and tips.
My Weight Loss
I’ve lost over 2.5 stone since I started dieting in earnest. I’m now in a healthy weight zone for my height and have lowered my BMI to a much better level. Ideally, I’d like to lose more, but that last bit is proving tricky to shift!
I’m also finding it a continual challenge to maintain the weight – take your eye off the dieting ball for one moment and back the weight comes. But the more I learn about dieting, the better my knowledge is becoming, and I hope to one day get to that elusive 3.5 stone. But for now I feel a lot healthier and better already than before. That in itself is already an improvement.
(Our new puppy and my exercise buddy Simon!)
We just recently got a dog, Simon, so I’m hoping that the daily walks and extra exercise will help shift those extra pounds! Our little imp is turning out to being worth more than any fitness center. We love him dearly.
On that note I say thank you to all the diet bloggers out there that have supported me or that have supported other bloggers. We are a community of sorts and need to stick together!
Happy dieting!
With Love, Delilah

Congratulations on being healthier! I think everyone could be a little healthier than they are now. That’s how I like to look at it so I stay motivated to constantly change for the better
And your new puppy is so cute! He would definitely motivate me to go out and run
What a great post! Thank you for sharing your story! That dog is so freakin’ cute I can hardly stand it! I have two little ones but I have always wanted a lab that I could run with!
what a great post and so inspirational!
i love that you (delilah) has a group of friends at work with similar healthy eating goals. my office always has candy and sugary snacks laying around and i think it’d be so much easier to combat if i had a partner in crime to battle the afternoon chocolate calling me! congrats on your weight loss and keep up the great work! also, that little puppy is so stinkin cute.
I definitely agree, having partners in crime (and health) is key!
Thank you all for the supporting comments!
Simon is really a cutie and a blessing.
My support team at work is truly helpful – without them I don’t think I could stay away from all the goodies for too long
